Fri 14th to Tue 18th Dec
Despite not being my favourite part of my travels, I did just want some beach holiday time for my last few days – to come back with a tan n all that! Having made a lot of friends here and a flight being cheap and straight forward, I decide to go back to Phuket!
I’m staying at the Oasis Guesthouse again and am greeted by Paul, Yo and his sister Gail when I arrive and it’s a nice cold Chang to welcome me back. What was meant to be an early night turns into quite a late one as I meet a lovely couple from Liverpool and get chatting and drinking with them!
Feeling a bit fragile Saturday, I have a lovely morning at the beach before going to get me a scooter again and hit the road to see Dave in Rawai and we head to Nikita’s again for dinner. After exemplary service last time, the difference tonight is astonishing – no wine, crap service and the food not great either. We go back to Sunshine bar too and the same can only be said for here also…there are less staff, they’re less engaging and it really is a lot lacklustre to the last time we were here.
Considering we’re in Dec and high season, this is quite a shock and a bit disappointing.
Luckily I’m not feeling too bad Sunday and it’s back to the Islander for one of their fabulous Sunday roasts, a bit of shopping when I get back and I look around the temple I didn’t manage last time
Monday morning and I head to the beach again. If you walk towards the Movenpick, the beach is much quieter and nicer.
The weather drives me from the beach so I go see my friend Craig in the Living Room for a beer and a big dose of reality hits as I have my return to work call with my boss. I can’t quite believe that in a few weeks I’ll be back behind my desk in Bristol! This really makes the end of this journey seem real. And that’s when Dave, my old colleague rocks up ready for our night out in Karon. After watching a band in No Name Bar, Dave hits the hay and I go on to Pen’s Bar with my Scouse friends Kev and Lisa where we apparently crawl home in the early hours!
I’m feeling last nights antics and head to Craig’s for a good old English fry up before hitting the beach and a look around the markets in Patong. I fight everybody’s requests to go out tonight – the hangover of my last night in Phuket still lingers heavily in my mind and I’m not doing it again, but I do have a lovely evening with all in Oasis and Kev and Lisa- who brings some lovely takeaway food over from their hotel for us all.
